Ryan Lang - Executive Managing Director

Austin, TX

Ryan Lang, executive managing director, leads ARA, A Newmark Company’s Student Housing division. Mr. Lang is responsible for leading the student division and spearheading best-in-class investment sales services for the group’s clients. He has represented a multitude of large multifamily investors including Brookfield Asset Management, Heitman and American Campus Communities, the nation’s largest developer, owner and manager of student housing.

Prior to joining ARA Newmark, Mr. Lang was vice president and co-leader of CBRE’s National Student Housing Group. He has represented some of the largest institutional, private and public real estate companies in the country and has closed approximately $2 billion in real estate transactions. In 2010, Mr. Lang joined New Orleans-based Stirling Properties as director of multi-family investments. While at Stirling, Mr. Lang specialized in the sale of conventional multifamily housing and student housing and was one of the most active multifamily experts in the state. He was recognized as the top investment sales broker at Stirling Properties for both 2011 and 2012. Mr. Lang began his real estate career in New York City at Marcus & Millichap with a background in seller representation, acquisitions and investment underwriting. In his first year there, his investment team was recognized as the #1 top earning team in the office and he was awarded the Pace Setter award for 2008.

Mr. Lang received his Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from the University of Florida. He holds a real estate license in Texas, Louisiana and Alabama.

Pat Jones - Vice Chairman

Austin, TX

Patton K. Jones, vice chairman, ARA, A Newmark Company Central Texas office. Mr. Jones is responsible for the Austin and San Antonio conventional multifamily business, the ARA Newmark National Student Housing Group, and the ARA Newmark National Manufactured Housing Group. Mr. Jones oversees business development, market research, and all aspects of property disposition. The collective business lines produce roughly $800MM in sales annually. Prior to joining ARA Newmark, Mr. Jones was co-founder of an aviation parts company. He lived and worked in London and Hong Kong and was responsible for sales in 33 countries. The company grew 9,200% in 3 years and was winner of numerous business awards - ranked # 1 in "Houston's 100 Fastest-Growing Businesses" in 1999 by the Houston Chronicle, ranked # 7 in Dun & Bradstreet and Entrepreneur Magazine's "Hot 100, America's Fastest-Growing New Businesses 1999," and scored one of the Aviation Industries' best web sites rated by Forbes Magazine in 2000. Additionally, Mr. Jones's past work experience includes single-family patio home development, energy trading, and serving as an international sales manager for a Fortune 500 tech firm. Pat received his Political Science degree at the University of Texas at Austin.


Brandon Buell - Transaction Manager

Austin, TX

Brandon Buell is a transaction manager with ARA, A Newmark Company’s Student Housing group where he is responsible for all aspects of property dispositions and the marketing process as well as market research, developing new business and fostering existing business relationships.

Prior to joining ARA Newmark, Mr. Buell was an associate partner at ApexOne Investment Partners, a private equity group in Houston, TX where his primary responsibilities included acquisitions, dispositions and asset management for both student housing and conventional multifamily assets within a 33-state region. During his tenure there, Mr. Buell sourced 100 percent of the student housing properties for the fund and asset managed 75 percent of the student housing portfolio. Other responsibilities included overseeing due diligence and renovations, and reporting to joint venture partners. Mr. Buell worked closely with an array of large student housing joint venture partners including Crow Holdings, Balfour Beatty, Behringer Harvard and Rockstreet Partners. His experience in acquiring approximately $400 million of student housing and conventional apartment properties throughout the country provides vital knowledge to clients in valuing assets and developing disposition strategies.

Mr. Buell graduated from the Rawls Business School at Texas Tech University. He has been involved with his church in many capacities including Elder, Chairman of the School Committee and high school youth advisor. He has also served as a director on a Houston area Municipal Utility District board for more than 12 years. Mr. Buell, a native Houstonian, still resides there along with his wife and two children.

Trent Houchin - Financial Analyst

Austin, TX

Trent Houchin is a financial analyst for ARA, A Newmark Company’s Student Housing group where he is responsible for the financial analysis of all properties and portfolios including the research of economic drivers, underwriting and performance benchmarking in support of the company’s investment sales services. In this role, Mr. Houchin leverages a unique expertise in development, acquisition and disposition analysis including that of primary, secondary and tertiary markets. He is actively involved throughout the entire disposition process from the production of marketing materials and reports, to assistance through due diligence, and he has worked closely with some of the largest student housing owners in the country. Over the course of the past year, Mr. Houchin was responsible for the comprehensive analysis of over $2 billion of investment grade student housing assets.

Prior to joining ARA Newmark, Mr. Houchin worked as a lead analyst for a development firm based in Austin, Texas where he was responsible for targeting new development and investment opportunities, financial analysis and coordination and submission of materials, plans, and reports as necessary for project entitlement.

Mr. Houchin graduated from Texas State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in finance.
