Robert Garrish - Vice Chairman


Robert Garrish joined Newmark Knight Frank in 2019 as a vice chairmen in the company’s Washington, DC, office. A 17-year multifamily real estate veteran, Robert specializes in the sale, purchase and recapitalization of multifamily assets in the Mid-Atlantic region. He has worked with a broad range of clients, including pension fund advisors, insurance companies, REITs, developers, family offices and a host of private capital groups. Since the start of his career, he has executed more than $25 billion of real estate transactions.

Prior to Newmark Knight Frank, Robert was a partner in JLL’s Mid-Atlantic Multifamily Investment Sales Group. He previously he worked at CBRE, as part of its New York-based Investment Properties Group.

Robert earned a Master of Business Administration degree and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a specialization in finance from Loyola University in Maryland.

Christine Espenshade - Vice Chairman

Christine Espenshade joined Newmark Knight Frank in 2019 as a vice chairmen in the company’s Washington, DC, office. A 20-year multifamily real estate veteran, Christine has substantial expertise in the development of student, seniors and family housing; property management; construction management; accounting; valuation policy; and underwriting. She has managed the sale or recapitalization of more than $8 billion in multifamily investments throughout the U.S.

Mark Anstine - Executive Managing Director

Mark Anstine, executive managing director for Newmark Knight Frank National Land Services, is a veteran land broker with over twenty years of experience in commercial real estate. He comes to Newmark Knight Frank following a 15-year span at Fraser Forbes, where he was Executive Vice President and managed the firm's Virginia operations. Mark is widely seen as the Washington, DC regional leader in land sales with unparalleled industry connections and deal making abilities. His efforts helped his team produce over $3 billion in closings on mixed-use, residential and redevelopment deals. A lifelong area resident, Mark holds a BS in economics from George Mason University.

Dan Lockard - Senior Managing Director

McLean, VA


Dan Lockard, senior managing director for Newmark Knight Frank National Land Services in Washington, DC, spearheads the team's efforts in the Northern VA urban market. His knowledge of the infill urban development market is unequaled among the region's brokerage community. His expertise includes large and small assemblages, multi-family developments, mixed used projects, property conversions, urban infill, and apartment asset sales. With over twenty years of real estate experience and ten years as a land broker, Dan has been responsible for sales in excess of $400 MM of land for commercial and residential redevelopment encompassing over three-million square feet in the Washington metropolitan area. Dan holds a BA from the University of Maryland and is a native of the DC area.

John Giebel - Director

John Giebel, director with Newmark Knight Frank National Land Services, is managing broker for the Virginia market. With his 16 years of real estate experience, John can assist his clients in developing a successful land acquisition strategy for both core and emerging markets. He is highly experienced with mixed-use development, multi-family land, residential subdivisions, finished lots, land assemblages and rezonings. John's recent real estate experience as a principal and managing broker includes Jordan Real Estate Services, a land brokerage firm specializing in the Northern Virginia market. Prior to Jordan Real Estate Services, his professional background includes over seven years experience as Vice President of Fraser Forbes' Northern Virginia team and six years of industrial sales and leasing experience at the Carey Winston Company. A native Washingtonian, John holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maryland.

Richard MacDonough - Director

McLean, VA


Richard MacDonough, director with Newmark Knight Frank National Land Services is the managing broker for the Maryland and DC markets, and he is among the most experienced land brokers in the Washington area. He has participated in deals involving thousands residential lots, multifamily units and mixed-use development sites. Rich brings significant commercial real estate experience and connections to Newmark Knight Frank, most recently as Senior Vice President at the J Street Companies; and also having been the Director of Maryland and DC Operations for Fraser Forbes where his brokerage team was the most respected land group in the region. Also an attorney, he holds a Master of Laws degree with an international law and business concentration, a JD from Quinnipiac University, and a BA from Fairfield University.
